Living by the Word
Every successful corporation operates by a set of policies and procedures; a structured guide that provides clear expectations, ensures consistency, and promotes accountability. These policies define how employees should act, make decisions, and uphold the company’s values. Without them, chaos would take over, leading to inefficiency, confusion, and failure.
As Christians, we, too, have a Policy & Procedure Manual, one that governs every aspect of our lives. It is not written by human hands, nor is it subject to revision or corporate updates. Our manual is the Bible, the unchanging, God-breathed Word that establishes the standards for righteous living.
The Bible: Our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
In business, policies outline what to do, what not to do, and how to handle challenges. Similarly, the Bible provides us with clear instructions on:
✔ How to live righteously – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105, NKJV)
✔ How to interact with others – “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.” (Luke 6:31, NKJV)
✔ How to handle trials – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6, NKJV)
✔ How to remain accountable – “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16, NKJV)
The Purpose of Policies & Procedures: A Spiritual Perspective
Corporations implement policies to ensure employees align with the company’s mission and vision. Likewise, the Bible keeps us aligned with God’s divine purpose.
1. Policies Promote Order
Just as corporate guidelines prevent disorder in the workplace, God’s Word prevents spiritual and moral chaos. When people ignore His instructions, confusion, and destruction follow (Proverbs 14:12).
2. Procedures Ensure Compliance
Businesses require employees to follow certain procedures to avoid penalties or termination. Spiritually, we are accountable to God’s commands and are called to walk in obedience (James 1:22-25).
3. Standards Protect the Organization & Its People
Corporate policies protect both the company and its employees. God’s laws protect us from sin’s consequences and lead us to abundant life (John 10:10).
Following the Manual = Success
Companies that follow well-crafted policies thrive. In the same way, believers who live by God’s Word experience peace, wisdom, and spiritual growth. Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) reminds us:
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Reflection Question:
- Are you treating the Bible as your ultimate Policy & Procedure Manual, or are you making up your own rules along the way?
Every job has policies that employees must follow, but our faith is more than a job, it’s a calling. God’s Word is the ultimate manual for life, filled with instructions that bring wisdom, direction, and purpose. Let’s not just skim through it like a corporate handbook, let’s live by it
Say It With Me:
- I align my life with God’s Word, my ultimate guide for living. I walk in obedience, knowing that His ways lead to success and righteousness.
- God’s Word is my daily guide, my standard for truth, and my source of direction. I choose to live by His instructions, trusting that His ways are higher than mine.
- I am rooted in Scripture, aligned with God’s purpose, and equipped to walk in integrity and excellence. His Word is written on my heart.
